Guest Review of Chef Mickey’s

There are so many Disney World dining options, in and out of the Parks!  Where do you start?  If you are traveling with kids, a Character Mal is a must!  My family of seven (yes, 5 kids!) have been to visit Disney a few times, but we were Character Meal newbies this year.  We chose Chef Mickey’s as one of our first Disney World dining Character Meals and were not disappointed!

First, make sure you book ahead as Advanced Dining Reservations can be hard to come by at this popular venue housed in Disney’s Contemporary Resort in the Magic Kingdom area.  Chef Mickey’s is an open air restaurant that  serves a buffet style meal.  We arrived a few minutes early and checked in.  We waited to have our family portrait taken (which they later bring around and you can purchase for a fee).  Our wait was about 15-20 minutes with ADR, but it was a busy time of year and the kids loved watching the monorail as it whizzed in and out of the track above the restaurant – a pretty cool feature of Chef Mickey’s!

We were told we were getting the best table in the restaurant and I agree!  It overlooked the lake and was a super view!  Once seated, our server was prompt in bringing out juice and coffee and also the kids all wanted chocolate milk which was happily provided.  My husband was especially delighted with everything the buffet had to offer

, it’s amazing!  It has everything from yogurt with granola to home fried potato turkey casserole (one of our favorites).  Definitely, something to satisfy everyone.  Fresh fruit, bagels, plus all of the regular breakfast fair and our kids favorite…Mickey Mouse waffles.  They were a huge hit.  You certainly don’t walk away hungry.  Everything was yummy and we had no complaints.  The smaller kids didn’t necessarily eat their money’s worth, but we didn’t really come to Chef Mickey’s for just the food.

The Characters are by far the most magical part of the dining experience.  At Chef Mickey’s, we had the opportunity to meet Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, and Pluto.  Each Character came to our table as we were eating and happily interacted with the kids, signing autographs and posing for pictures.  Also, a couple of times during the meals one or two of the Characters would dance around our table area and have the kids swing their napkins in the air.  While we were leaving this happened and my son got down and danced with Minnie, it was so cute!!  You have to take a look around before you go up to the buffet to make sure there isn’t a Character on their way over to your table so you don’t miss anyone, but we didn’t have any problems and saw all of the fab five during our meal.  Make sure you seat the kids on the outside of the table so the Characters can easily access them and they can get up without trouble for photo as well.

After our experience at Chef Mickey’s, I would highly recommend any family put this Disney World dining experience on their “must do” list for Disney.  It gives you an opportunity to experience a great meal while visiting with the Characters so you can get on with the other experiences the parks have to offer.  Also, we made late morning reservations which served as a brunch on a non park day , so we lasted until dinner.  It also allowed us to experience the magic of Disney even though we weren’t visiting a park that day!  We will definitely visit again – you can’t beat the fab five with the fab food!
