Our AWESOME contributor Rachel is back and has a great review of a family favorite!! Enjoy!

Hi ya pal! As I sit here typing away, thinking about my upcoming trip, I’m craving the topic of my newest review, 50’s Prime Time Café in Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

50’s Prime Time is a wonderful restaurant full of mom’s cooking. The food here is great, home cooked meals. It’s quite different from what you would order at another restaurant on Disney property. This is good ole American everyday food. They have milkshakes (and let me add that the peanut butter and jelly milkshake is the best) and malts, salad, fried chicken, meatloaf, pot roast and a whole lot of other comfort food. This is a nice change from your other table service restaurants. Since I have a family of 5, we all order different entrees and try each other’s meals. So, I think it’s safe to say that I’ve tried almost everything off of this menu. We always start off with the peanut butter and jelly milkshake. I have to share this with someone because it is way too big for me to drink alone and expect to enjoy my meal. You know, I’m not a big fan of meatloaf, but I have to say the meatloaf here is the best I’ve tasted…ever. If you have a big appetite, never fear, there is an entrée called, A sampling of mom’s favorite recipes. This includes fried chicken, fork tender pot roast, and meatloaf. Holy cow is it a lot of food.

The prices here are very reasonable. If you’re on the Disney Dining Plan, it counts for one table service credit. If you have a Tables in Wonderland card, 50’s participates in this program as well. But even if you’re paying for it, the prices are not as much as some of the other restaurants.

The atmosphere here is hustling, bustling, fun! Mom, Dad, or Uncle will be your server. But, be warned, you must keep your elbows off the table and have all proper table manners. Be sure to eat all of your vegetables or you can’t have desert. And for the love of God, please do not talk on your cell phone, or play on your cell phone because mom, dad, or uncle will getcha! Most of the staff really get into character. They definitely make the experience that much better. This is not a quiet restaurant, in fact, it’s quite noisy. So, if you are looking for a nice cozy, quiet place, don’t come here. But if you’re looking for fun, and get the right waitress, or waiter, this is definitely a must-do.

So, the next time you’re in DHS, if you haven’t already, give it a try. You must make reservations. I would not recommend trying to get a walk-up. If you have eaten here, let me know what you think! That’s it for today. See ya real soon J

Welcome to another Disney food review folks! This week I’ve decided that we will take a tour through my family’s favorite table service restaurant, Ohana! Ohana is located at the gorgeous Polynesian resort. It’s just a short monorail ride from select resorts and the Magic Kingdom. Always remember Ohana means family and when you walk into this restaurant you are the family. This is a must do every trip according to my husband. Now, we haven’t been to every restaurant on property, but of those that we have been to this one is the absolute favorite. When we check in for our meal, we love to go sit in the bar and have a lapu lapu. This is a refreshing drink (especially in the summer). I don’t know what’s in it, but I would suggest having only one. Otherwise, you’ll have to have someone carry you out of there. Trust me

Once our table is ready, we’re escorted by our server right past the grill. Our senses are awakened as we are guided to our seat for the meal.

We can’t wait to get to the table! For starters they bring you out a salad, broccoli, lo mein noodles, sticky wings, and pot stickers. I promise with the appetizers alone you will stuff yourselves silly. Oh, I almost forgot the bread. If you resist filling up on both of these then you’re in for a real treat.

Who can resist the sticky wings and pot stickers! Not my family. I’ll tell you that I don’t have pictures of the skewers of meat (chicken, steak, shrimp, and Asian barbeque pork loin), because the entire table goes silent, and the camera is put away so we can get our grub on! Be careful, if you get a late reservation, they are trying to get rid of all of the meat and will empty the skewers on your plate. Seriously, you can hurt yourself with a late reservation. One plus with a late reservation is the fact that if seated in the right place you can watch Wishes from the Magic Kingdom. You can also watch the electrical parade from your seat.

Doesn’t really matter what time your reservation is for at Ohana because the atmosphere here is the best! Besides the scenery there is also authentic Polynesian entertainment throughout your meal. There is a singer who invites all of the kids, and anyone celebrating a birthday, anniversary, or any other event out on the floor to do a dance around the restaurant. Everyone gets leis to commemorate the occasion.

The prices are $35.14-$39.40 for adults and $17.03-$19.16 for kids ages 3-9. If you’re on the dining plan, this will cost you one table service credit.

Seriously, if you haven’t already tried this place, you must try it on your next trip. I know that you will agree with my review when you do. So, until next week, I’ll end by saying, see ya real soon!

Tucked away along World Showcase at Epcot’s Morocco Pavilion, lies a counter service location that is in my personal opinion the very BEST bang for your buck! Tangerine Cafe in Morocco boasts the best ambiance, largest portions and even the healthiest quick service dining on Walt Disney World property. If you happen to be on the Disney Dining Plan you will find that dining at this location is a no-brainer. If you are off the Disney Dining Plan, not a problem, Tangerine Cafe has HUGE portions so you can share a platter with someone else in your party.

One of the best things about being at Epcot is the fact that you can indulge in some luscious foods that you may otherwise have never tried. I do consider myself a foodie and I love to try new things…in fact everyone in my family does. You may find yourself glancing at the menu and opting out of this dining location. I encourage you to give it a try, even if you decide to share a meal to see if you like it. The food here is fresh healthy and oh so good!

On to the food….

For those that would like to see what they are going to eat, Cast Members have appropriately created all of the selections for you to see in advance.

Mediterranean Wraps

You have a choice of lamb, chicken or falafal the wrap is served with CousCous salad and Lentil salad.

A few people in my party opted for the lamb wrap and loved it! It can be very easily compared to a Gyro sandwich. Cost:$9.99 or 1 quick service meal.

Mediterranean Sliders Combo

This is a HUGE amount of food and it is super yummy! When you order the combo you will get three pita pockets: Lamb, Chicken and Falafel, with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, cucumber, and Tahini Sauce. Served with lentils, hummus and tabouleh. Cost: $14.99 or 1 quick service meal.

Shawarma Platters – served with side of hummus, tabouleh and couscous salad with fresh Moroccan bread.

Chicken & Lamb Combo $13.99

Chicken $11.99

Lamb $12.99

In my opinion the lamb patter is the way to go, I was not a huge fan of the chicken it was a bit soft and slimy. The lamb was amazing! I apologize in advance for the picture, we put the sauce on before we took the picture. :0)

When you are on the Disney Dining Plan as part of the meal you will receive a soft drink, meal and your dessert. The dessert is baklava and I thought it was super! Speaking of kids, Tangerine Cafe has your regular Disney World kid’s menu featuring a hamburger or chicken tenders. My kids ordered the chicken tenders and ate them up.

I would also like to do a special mention for the tabouleh which I thought was just splendid!

If you don’ stay at Pop but you know of a similar deal at your home resort please do share your findings in the comments section below.

When you are on the Disney Dining Plan and you order a quick service meal, you get 1 meal, 1 drink and 1 dessert of your choice. This usually consists of some sort of cake or ice cream bar. Did you know that at Pop they have a bakery section that serves up some wonderful made to order Sundaes? Did you know you can get one of those Sundaes instead of what is offered in the food court area? Well you can!!

When you check out simply tell the cast member that is checking you out that you are going to get your dessert later. He/She will stamp your receipt with a dessert time stamp good for 90 minutes. You can then enjoy your meal and head on over to the bakery, where you can order a Sundae with all of the fixins. It is sooooooooooo yummy!!! We did this almost every day!

*Tip I asked and was able to use my receipt past the 90 minute time slot. It never hurts to ask. :0)

Rachel is a brand new contributor here at Mouse Dine. Be sure to follow her every Thursday right here and be sure to have your appetite ready. :0)

Today I thought I would change it up a bit. I know from what, my first post! I love to find recipes used by restaurants on Disney property. I thought I would try to make one of the most popular dishes on property, The Cobb Salad from the Hollywood Brown Derby in Hollywood Studios. Below are the ingredients.

Salad Dressing

½ Head of ice berg lettuce ½ cup of Water

½ bunch of watercress ½ teaspoon sugar

1 small bunch of chicory 1/ ¼ teaspoon salt

½ head of romain lettuce 1 ½ teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

2 medium tomatoes blanched and peeled 1 clove of garlic chopped

1 ½ cup of cooked turkey breast, diced ½ cup of red wine vinegar

3 hard boiled eggs Juice of ½ lemon

½ C blue cheese ½ teaspoon black pepper

6 strips of bacon crumbled ½ teaspoon English mustard

2 tablespoons of chopped chives ½ cup of extra virgin olive oil 1 ½ cup of salad oil

These are all of the chopped vegetables. The trick to this is to chop all of the lettuce finely.

This is the dressing.

I prepared the salad in the salad bowl in layers. Topped with the bacon, turkey, and blue cheese. These were laid in rows, and topped with the chopped chives.

Last, I blended all of the ingredients for the dressing, and streamed in the oils. That was poured all over the top of the salad.

This is the final finished reproduction of the cobb salad at the Hollywood Brown Derby. What do you think? The salad was great. Was it as good as the actual salad…no, but it was really close to the original. Anyone who didn’t know any better would think it was a pretty darn good salad. My daughter, Brooke, who eats nothing green, had 2 servings of this salad. She also said that if I continue cooking like this she’s never going to leave. That’s it I’m not cooking anymore, tee hee.

You can do this salad at home. It’s extremely easy to put together. I think the preparation time was 25 minutes. That included cooking the turkey breast cutlets. It would be a party favorite as well.

So, until next week, I’ll end by saying see ya real soon!

Chef Mickey is one of the most highly desired character meals on Disney property. As a travel agent specializing in Disney Travel, one of the services that I offer to my clients is booking their dining reservations and Chef Mickey seems to be on everyone’s A list…especially breakfast.

We are not huge breakfast people but I decided that I needed to see what all of the hype was for. I was pleasantly surprised! Chef Mickey was so good that it actually made it to my A list.

Located inside Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Chef Mickey is in an open air area of the resort just below the place where the monorail breezes by you. Upon arrival you will be greeted by a Cast Member that will direct you to take your family picture with the one and only Chef Mickey. There will be a Disney photographer there to take professional pictures, but don’t be too shy to ask him/her to take a few shots with your camera. Of course your pictures will be presented to you while you are dining for a fee.

Once you are seated your server will come around to take your drink order which consists of your regular breakfast affair; coffee, juice, tea, and milk. You are then free to enjoy the plentiful buffet. Of course there are your typical breakfast items such as, eggs, sausage, french toast, bacon and of course Mickey Mouse waffles. But Chef Mickey has some unique items as well such as, lox and bagels, blintzes, Goofy’s Vegetable Lasagna, bacon and cheese potatoes (so yummy!) Minnie’s Breakfast Pizza and much more. In addition to all of those items there is a super fun cereal bar!! My family LOVES cereal so this was quite a hit.

Take a peak at the affair…it is super yummy!!

Welcome to my first post on MouseDine.com! First let me say how thrilled I am to write for this site! I’m a Disney World lover, and love to dine all over Disney. I hope you will enjoy the posts as much as I know I will enjoy writing about my dining experiences there. So many topics to choose from, I don’t know where to start. Well, yes, I kind of do know where to start. Let’s drink around the world. I will take you on a tour around Epcot, while I sample drinks from the World Showcase. Below is my list of favorites. Let’s get started, shall we…

Mexico – Who doesn’t love a great Margarita at La Cava del Tequila. This spot is a favorite among friends. One thing I didn’t know was that there are tastings on Friday’s, Saturday’s, and Sunday’s at 3:00.

Norway – I did try the Prince of Norway. This is a blend of Apricot Brandy, Sloe Gin, Sour mix and OJ. This drink is pretty potent, so if you have younger ones, not such a great idea. I’m no lightweight, and it was the only drink I could have that day.

China – I must admit we haven’t actually had a drink at this pavilion. However, during Food and Wine we visited, and I got the Singapore Sling. Let me just tell ya, DON’T DO IT!!!! This drink was so strong, we got in in a small (and I do mean small) cup and it took 4 of us an hour to drink it. It was crazy potent.

Germany – I love the German Beer Flight here. There are 4 different kinds of beer served, the names are, Radeberger Pilsner, Schöfferhofer Weizen, Altenmünster Oktoberfest, and Hövels. Nom, nom, nom.

Italy – At Via Napoli, we sampled a few different things here. I had the Moretti. I must say that was some good stuff! My husband had the La Rossa. I had a taste of his and liked it better…so I stole his drink and gave him mine.

United States – Might I be an imagineer and suggest that they offer some good ole American made beer here. Because who wouldn’t like a nice Bud Light after all of the above???? But alas there is no alcohol served here.

Morocco – Marrkesh Express – Made with rum, orange juice, pineapple juice, topped with dark rum. Who wouldn’t love rum, OJ, and pineapple juice. Let’s just say I’ll be visiting this place again!

France – France, France, oh how I love thee! Grand Marnier Slush…need I say more. This has to be my favorite stop along the World Showcase EVER! I don’t care what time we hit World Showcase I’m definitely going to stop for my slush. The Grey Goose slush is great too. But nothing compares to my Grand Marnier slush.

United Kingdom – Welsh Dragon Peach Schnapps, Melon liqueur, Creme de menthe, orange juice, and pineapple juice, I think I could live here.

Japan – naturally, when one thinks of Japan they think of sake; right? Not me, a must have every trip to Teppan Edo is the Cherry Blossom Martini. I am a martini girl, but there is something refreshing about this martini. It’s a must try if you visit Teppan Edo.

So, that’s it. What do you think? Feeling a little parched? Me too! So until next post, I’ll close with See Ya Real Soon!
